A Bollington restaurant owner has described the break in and damage to his business as "disgraceful", particularly during this difficult time.

In the early hours of this morning (7th May) an intruder broke into Briscola Restaurant and Wine Bar on Palmerston Street, Bollington and smashed windows and doors in the premises.

Adam Maycock, a part-owner of the restaurant, told Nub News: "We think someones broke in upstairs and tried to take some stuff and then literally tried to boot their way out downstairs."

Mr Maycock said the perpetrator tried to get out through the back door, but could not do so. "He's obviously panicked and gone through the through the front, smashed the windows and the door to try and get out," he said.

The total cost of the damage is not yet known and the restaurant's insurance company has been contacted.

Mr Maycock said police had been to the premises last night and a forensic team went in this morning to gather any evidence left behind.

Asked how it made him feel, Mr Maycock said: "It's disgraceful, especially with what's going on at the minute. We should all be sticking together, but obviously there are some doing this. It's a bit violating really."

Anyone with information on the break-in has been urged to contact the police on 101 and quote IML699100.

Karina McWhirck, who is also part owner, said: "We are really grateful to the people of Bollington for all of the support they have given us. We've been trying to keep the business going so we can remain a part of this great community and town."

Briscola hasn't let either the coronavirus pandemic or break-in stop them from keeping their loyal customers fed with their delivery and take-out service.

The restaurant is open Wednesday to Friday from 5pm onwards and Saturday and Sunday from 4pm onwards. You can order by calling 01625 573898 and can find out more information on their Facebook page.
