Bollington's smallest representation of local government has celebrated half-a-century since they were created.

Bollington Town Council was established on 1st April 1974 (formerly the Urban District Council, created in 1894, and incorporated into the Borough of Macclesfield).

Today, the Bollington Town Council is represented by twelve Town Councillors, four on each of the three wards.

To commemorate the Council's 'golden' anniversary, Councillors and former Mayors gathered at the Town Hall at an event hosted by the 2023-24 Town Mayor, Cllr Helen Ellwood, and raised a toast to the past, present and future of the Town Council.

All refreshments were kindly provided by those attending, with nil cost to the Council.

The Town Manager, Cllr Ellwood, said '"It has been an honour to serve Bollington as Town Mayor, especially in its 50th year celebrations held in the beautiful Council Chamber at Bollington Town Hall."

"A celebratory glass (or two) was raised in the company of ex-mayors and the Town Hall team - overlooked by the photographs of all our past Mayors.

"The first 50 years have passed so quickly and here is a toast to the next 50."

Bollington Town Council is 41 years older than Macclesfield Town Council, which was established in 2015.
