Macclesfield College appoints Ceri Johns as new chair of governors

Macclesfield College is pleased to announce the appointment of Ceri Johns as the new Chair of Governors, succeeding Mark Sharples, who will be stepping down after 10 years of dedicated service as both a Board Member and Chair.

Ceri Johns brings over 23 years of extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, with a distinguished career that includes roles at prestigious organisations such as PwC and Manchester City Council. As a qualified chartered accountant and Public Sector Consultant for KPMG, Ceri possesses a wealth of expertise in financial commercial leadership and has spearheaded significant transformation projects throughout her career.

She has also worked for Warrington Borough Council and the old Cheshire County Council which Macclesfield used to fall under.

Throughout her tenure, Ceri has demonstrated a commitment to excellence, fostering relationships with clients across various sectors including Local and Central Government, Utilities, Health, Housing, Higher Education, Transport, Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism. Her ability to challenge existing processes, identify opportunities, and drive solutions has earned her recognition as a highly effective leader in financial transformation.

In her new role as Chair of Governors, Ceri Johns will play a pivotal role in steering Macclesfield College towards its strategic objectives, ensuring it remains at the forefront of educational excellence. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and community engagement, Ceri aims to build upon the College's successes and further enhance its impact on the lives of learners and the wider community.

Commenting on her appointment, Ceri Johns expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to the College's ongoing success: "I am honoured to step up as Macclesfield College's Chair of Governors and look forward to working closely with the Board and Leadership team to advance our shared vision of educational excellence. Outgoing Chair of Governors, Mark Sharples, conveyed his confidence in Ceri's leadership, stating, "Ceri's wealth of experience and dedication to driving positive change make her the ideal candidate to lead Macclesfield College into the future. I have no doubt that under her guidance, the College will continue to flourish and make a lasting impact on the lives of students and the wider community."

Principal and CEO of Macclesfield College, Rachel Kay, echoed these sentiments, emphasising Ceri's passion for education and her ability to inspire positive change:

Ceri Johns officially assumed her role as Chair of Governors, effective yesterday, 01.05.2024.
