A Bollington singer-songwriter has released the first single from her forthcoming debut album.

Third Lung, comes from Megan Dixon Hood's first-ever LP, which is currently being recorded.

The 26-year-old, who has 200,000 plays on Spotify, is currently the most popular musician from the Happy Valley.

Megan, who was born in Macclesfield but lives in Bollington, often treks to Bollington's White Nancy for creative inspiration.

A title like Third Lung evokes exploring the potential of peak human possibility, which is echoed by the name-dropping of deep sea diver and mountain climber occupations.

As a musician who has recently returned to live concerts, the feeling of a Third Lung also implies the euphoria of performing to crowds once again.

It would be easy to compare Megan's music to Kate Bush, but the Bollingtonian has crafted her own wispy, ethereal sound, slickly produced by Matt Cotterill and Joel Atkins.

Jake Greville and Megan also co-produced the track.

Megan had this to say about Third Lung:

"Third Lung is inspired by Biosphere 2, an experiment from the 90's where a group of scientists/adventurers decided to live within an earth spaceship, replicating the earth's ecosystem."

"They ended up starved of food and oxygen and the experiment was deemed a failure. Biosphere 1, is the earth we already have.

"I find it so interesting that they tried to create a second 'world' to understand the real one."

Her debut full-length release, which is currently untitled, will be released in 2022.

Megan added: "This song was written last year on my piano in the middle of lockdown."

"This year I've been lucky enough to craft it into a whole new soundscape with my boys, and I love it! I can't wait to perform it live.

"It's an offering of the next chapter, and a taste of what's to come from my debut album.

"I'm so grateful to all the people that helped bring 'Third Lung' to life. And thank you, of course, to you [the listener].

"You literally made this happen, and your support this past year has been beyond what I had hoped, so I hope you love 'Third Lung' as much as I do."
