Cafe at Macclesfield Sainsbury's to close this week as supermarket shifts focus

A supermarket café closes this week.
Sainsbury's have confirmed that the café at the Cumberland Street branch in Macclesfield is to shut.
It forms part of the supermarket chain's 'three-year Next Level strategy'.
A spokesperson said: "In January, we shared the difficult decision that our remaining Sainsbury's Cafés would be closing and this will take place on April 11.
"We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause.
"Our stores continue to support the customers and communities they serve in a range of ways, including through fundraising, volunteering and donations to good causes.
"We're exploring future opportunities for the space and will keep our colleagues and customers updated."
Sainsbury's plan going forward is centred on creating more space for its fresh food ranges.
This involves proposals to close patisserie, hot food and pizza counters as well as the 61 remaining Sainsbury's Cafés, as the majority of shoppers do not use them.
The supermarket chain say that these proposals will result in the loss of 3,000 jobs.
"Sainsbury's is talking to the colleagues affected about what the changes mean for them and explore redeployment opportunities where this is possible," read a statement released by the company.
"This is in addition to providing a support package to those affected which exceeds statutory requirements while offering opportunities to receive tailored guidance for their future career options."
