A new coffee shop could open in Macclesfield next year.

Two applications on the Cheshire East Council website suggest a coffee company has applied to move into 53 Mill Street, better known as the former River Island building.

Mr Jack McClean of Planning Potential Limited has applied for the application on behalf of Coffee#1 Limited.

And while this name may not be a high street name, they are a national coffee chain owned by Caffe Nero Group Holdings Ltd.

There are many Coffee#1 sites in the south of England and Wales. But the nearest one to Macclesfield is currently at 73 Spring Gardens in Buxton.

It would be their first site in Cheshire, and fill in the whole 147.30 square metres space. A separate application has been proposed for some advertising boards.

The hours of opening are proposed to be Monday to Friday 07:00am to 19:00pm, Saturday 07:00am to 19:00pm and Sunday / Bank Holiday 08:00am to 18:00pm.

These would align with regular coffee shop hours, and are similar to the current Caffe Nero hours in Macclesfield.

It is presumed the new coffee chain would co-exist alongside Macclesfield's Caffe Nero, on Market Place.

Coffee#1 Limited and Caffe Nero have been contacted for comment.

A final decision will be made by December 20. You can find more about the application here.
