You might have thought it was a thing reserved only for Hollywood movies, but a cat got stuck up a chimney in Macclesfield this weekend.

A young kitty got caught up a fireplace in central Macclesfield on Saturday.

One fire engine from Macclesfield Fire and Rescue Station, on Chester Road, had to attend the incident.

The curious kitty went up a flue at a residential property on Chestergate, with Macclesfield firefighters arriving at 7:12pm on Saturday October 21.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the following: "The crew were called to a flat on Chestergate where a kitten was found to be stuck in a chimney behind a wrought iron fire place. Firefighters were able to lower a small basket down approximately 15ft and bring the kitten up to safety."

The RSPCA, who did not attend the event, were contacted for comment, to offer any advice to pet owners.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: "We're really pleased to hear this kitten was unharmed and rescued successfully and we'd like to thank the officers at Cheshire Fire and Rescue for their care and compassion."

Any images of the curious kitten have not been released.
