Police are investigating reports that a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Macclesfield.

Cheshire Police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to following reports of a sexual assault near to the indoor market entrance on Churchill Way.

The incident is believed to have taken place some time between 2.10am and 2.45am on Saturday, November 29.

It is understood a 17-year-old girl was assaulted by a man, described as white, in his 50s, with shaved grey hair and wearing a grey or black tracksuit.

Detective Constable Maxie Ash said: "We understand the concern this incident is likely to cause, and we have been doing all we can since it was reported to locate the person responsible.

"Numerous enquiries have been undertaken, and we are now releasing a CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to as we believed he may hold vital information.

"Anyone who believes they recognise the man pictured is urged to contact us. The same goes for anyone with any information in relation to the incident, or who witnessed what happened.

"We would also appeal directly to the man pictured to contact us.
