A new charity shop is opening in Macclesfield.

Space4Autism has announced that its first-ever charity shop, Space Launchpad, will open for business on Chestergate this Sunday, September 28.

The project, which will help raise vital funds and provide employment and training opportunities for autistic adults, has been over two years in the making.

Cheryl Simpson MBE, the charity's founder and CEO, said: "It has been a dream of ours to support autistic adults into employment, and with a lot of hard work, this dream has now become a reality.

"The shop is not just about raising funds, but also about giving autistic adults the skills and confidence they need to step into future employment and to show the community their incredible talents."

Space Launchpad has been made possible thanks to the support of Cheshire East Council.

In charge of the store is manager Lin Purtill, who brings 15 years' of experience in charity retail to the role.

She is joined by employment co-ordinator Lis Brown, who will oversee training and employment pathways.

Meanwhile, employment buddy Chris Smith will offer day-to-day support to the 'Launchpad Crew' of autistic adults who will be gaining hands-on retail experience to prepare them for future employment opportunities.

The Launchpad Crew have been working hard behind the scenes over the past few weeks to get the shop ready for its grand opening, which coincides with the September Treacle Market.

Cheryl said: "I am so proud of the team.

"They have all come together and made the shop look wonderful.

"We can't wait to welcome the community into Space Launchpad and share this exciting new chapter for Space4Autism."

Inside the store, shoppers will be able to find everything from clothing and toys to bric-a-brac and vinyl records.

Funds raised will play a crucial role in sustaining Space4Autism's services, particularly the social clubs they run for autistic children, young people and adults.

It is hoped the shop will provide a more sustainable income stream, reducing the charity's reliance on donations and grants.
