Cheshire councillor says resignation of Prime Minister 'final straw' for Conservatives
A Cheshire Councillor has reacted to the news of the Prime Minister resigning from her position - believing it is the 'final straw' for the Conservative party.
Liz Truss officially announced she would be resigning as PM at 1:35pm today (October 20).
The 47-year-old was the shortest-serving PM in British history - lasting just 45 days in office.
Shortly after the PM's resignation, Crewe West Labour councillor, Cllr Connor Naismith, responded to the news.
He told Nub News: "The United Kingdom is not a sandbox for various Tory politicians to play Prime Minister in.
"They have dragged us from crisis to crisis and this last month has to be the final straw.
"We need a General Election to restore stability to government.
"Only then will we be able to tackle the cost of living crisis in the interests of working people."
Liz Truss' position as PM became untenable through her economic programme - dividing her party and sending shockwaves though financial markets.
The new Conservative leader is expected to be announced by the end of next week (October 28) - through a fast leadership contest.
Nub News has contacted local MPs for comment.
