A Cheshire councillor accused of strangulation and trying to pervert the course of justice has appeared in court from prison via video link.

Ashley Farrall, who represents Macclesfield Central on Cheshire East Council, appeared remotely at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday (March 11) where he had been expected to enter a plea.

But the hearing was adjourned until April 1 pending changes to his legal team.

He is currently on remand at HMP Altcourse and is accused of one count of intentional strangulation, and one of committing an act/series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice.

Farrall, 42, whose address was given in court documents as Ellenbrook Road, Manchester, had been part of Cheshire East's Labour group having been elected to the council in 2019, but is now non-grouped.

At Tuesday's court session, his plea hearing was rescheduled to April 1, with Judge Michael Leeming pencilling in a provisional three-day trial date for August 4.
