The 8:02am Avanti West Coast train service from Macclesfield to Manchester has been temporarily scrapped due to staff shortages. 

From the May 16, the service that takes many local commuters from Macclesfield into the centre of Manchester will be stopped.

Instead commuters will have to wait till 8:19 am for the next Avanti West Coast train, or get an earlier one. 

There are now just three trains to Piccadilly from Macc between 8am and 9am.

One commuter told Macclesfield Nub News of their disapproval with this change. 

"I, along with dozens (if not hundreds) of other commuters, rely on this express service to get into work on time in the morning," he said. 

"Based on previous discussions with staff at Macclesfield Station, I understand that this is the most used train service from Macclesfield on any given day and therefore I am flummoxed by the decision to scrap the service."

A spokesperson for Avanti West Coast has released a statement to address the confusion around the decision to cancel one of the more popular train services. 

Macclesfield Railway Station is located on Waters Green, Macclesfield, SK11 6JP.

"The 08.02 Macclesfield to Manchester Piccadilly train has been withdrawn until September as a temporary measure due to staff shortages," they stated.

"The train is planned to return in September and our timetable is subject to regular review in collaboration with stakeholders from Government, Network Rail, and industry partners."

There are still services that will get you to Manchester; the services that will be available and that will get you into Manchester before 9am are the 7:50am service (arr. 8:30am) and the 8:19 service (arr. 8:52am) that will take you directly to Manchester Piccadilly.
