Care village Belong Macclesfield took part in the second weekly Clap for Carers, showing their support and thanks for the NHS and all frontline care workers with their own rendition of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'.

Approximately 30 of the village's residents braved the chilly spring air by taking to their windows and balconies for a round of applause at 8pm.

The applause was followed by their own version of the classic song, which was selected for its vision of hope and happier times ahead, as the Covid-19 coronavirus health crisis continues.

Inside the villages, more residents joined the show of appreciation for the NHS, as well as their thanks to care village staff "who continue to work tirelessly at this exceptionally challenging time".

Caroline Ray, General Manager at Belong Macclesfield, told Macclesfield Nub News: "It's a really difficult time for everyone at the moment but colleagues and residents at Belong Macclesfield are keeping each other's spirits up and making sure there is lots of love everywhere.

"Everyone was very moved by the moment, which provided a real boost for our residents and colleagues.

"We will continue to observe this mark of respect for all carers on a weekly basis, showing our support for all key workers both inside the village and throughout the country."
