Council expresses 'strong preference' that football continues at Moss Rose
Cheshire East Council has confirmed that Macclesfield Town FC will be formally marketed and expressed their "strong preference" to see football continue at the Moss Rose grounds they own.
A statement from the council has said there is interest in taking over the Silkmen, which they described as "is positive news for the club, its employees, its fans and the whole of Macclesfield".
A council spokesperson said: "Our strong preference is to see community football continue on the site and we would encourage those with an interest in buying the club to register their interest with the receiver or their marketing agent.
"Although this is a concerning time for supporters and particularly employees of the club, it is important to be patient and allow this work to be undertaken.
"The council, as the owner of the freehold of the site, will continue to closely monitor the position and, where appropriate, engage and work with the receiver.
"The council is also currently seeking to get in contact with the club to offer individual practical advice for the employees at this difficult time for them."
The Silkmen Supporters' Club has previously called on the council to ensure they maintain the land for a football club and "discourage bids from property developers".
