'Unforeseeable conditions' have pushed back the reopening of Mill House Bridge.
Cheshire East Council has provided an update on the repair works taking place along the A523 London Road in Adlington.
These works were due to be completed by Friday, November 7.
However, the council say there have been 'some delays', meaning the temporary traffic lights remain in place for the time being.
A spokesperson said: "With complex schemes like this there can be unforeseeable conditions and we have encountered some delays during October. However, we're working hard to get the bridge open safely and as soon as possible.
"Once the works are complete, the council's highways team will leave the site for Cadent Gas to carry out essential maintenance. While Cadent's works are not part of this repair, the council is working to ensure a smooth transition between phases.
"Highway improvements were originally planned after Cadent's gas main works but, due to a rescheduling, they will now take place beforehand. These include signage updates, surface patching, line reinstatement and vegetation clearance to improve safety.
"We apologise for any further disruption and thank the public for their continued patience."
