Just over 20 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Cheshire East on Monday, March 15.

Neighbouring Cheshire West and Chester recorded slightly more with 30.

The numbers mean that Cheshire East's rolling seven-day infection rate is 51.8 cases per 100,000 residents, with CWAC's being 63.8.

The England figure is currently 58.7, a fall of 11.4 per cent from a week ago.

In our area, CEC has seen a 24.9 per cent fall in the same period, whereas CWAC's reductions was 9.5 per cent.

The news comes on the same day CEC Labour leader Sam Corcoran tweeted that infection numbers are "still falling", adding "any impact of children going back to school will begin to show in next week's figures".

The data, showing CWAC infection rate fall behind the national average also underlines officials' belief that more work needs to be done to get infection rates down.

Last week, Ian Ashworth, CWAC's Director of Public Health, said: "We have seen a… reduction in the previous week with infection rates which is fantastic — it's great to see that.

"The rate has not been as low as this since September 24. It is really good and we want it to come down even moreso."

One death was recorded in Cheshire West on Monday (March 15), with none in Cheshire East.
