A Macclesfield brewery are shutting up shop in the middle of a busy summer season, to raise money in memory of a beloved former colleague.

Wincle Brewing Company will be scaling one of Britain's biggest mountains to raise money to commemorate the life of Leon Leah.

Leon worked for the local brewer for 12 years, and passed away from pancreatic cancer this February.

One year after, his son Grant Leah began working for the award-winning brewery.

Grant, who is now a brewer, will be one of nine staff members scaling Mount Snowdon in memory of Leon.

"On August 18 we will be hiking up Snowdon", said Grant.

"Leon was the drayman, the delivery driver, and he got me a job here cleaning casks.

"I used to go out delivering with dad all the time."

The walk will raise money for two charities, being Pancreatic Cancer UK and East Cheshire Hospice.

Giles Meadows, founder of Wincle Brewery said: "Leon was a hugely popular and much loved member of our small team and everybody at the brewery felt strongly that we should do something positive to honour his memory.

"It is a close family really the brewery, we all wanted to commemorate him. It is something we all wanted to do as a nod to Leon.

"All of us will going to Snowdon. We have our youngest member Grant at 24 and our oldest member John Smith who is 74 all taking part."

The brewery was founded in 2008, so Leon had worked there for the majority of the history of the brewery. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"We would be hugely grateful if you could make a donation large or small to go to a charity dear to Leon's heart."

So far, £885 of their £1000 fundraising goal has been raised before a single step of the walk.

The money will be split down the middle between the two charities, and one is local being Macclesfield's East Cheshire Hospice.

"East Cheshire Hospice was where he passed away and wanted to pass away", added Grant.

"It was the best care we could have for him at that time. They were absolutely brilliant in providing end-of-life care.

"Thank you very much to all who donate. It will make a difference.

"A lot of the Hospice are volunteers, which people don't realise, they give a lot of their spare time to help those who need their care.

"I like working at Wincle Brewery because of the environment, we are a close family and work in beautiful scenery. You can't get a better office than we have."
