Cycling protesters demand 'urgent' action to improve safety of Macclesfield's roads

A cycling protest is planned in response to the 'disgraceful' state of roads in Macclesfield.
Green Party campaigner John Knight is calling on Cheshire East Council to take 'urgent' action to improve the safety of roads in the town.
In a bid to make his voice heard, John is organising a demonstration to take place this Saturday (June 7).
He said: "The roads in Macclesfield need urgent attention.
"They are falling apart, and with little or no thought given to alternatives to driving, congestion is getting worse.
"We need action to fix the potholes and make better provision for all road users.
"I am fed up of being stuck getting out of Sainsbury's.
"I want to be able to walk or cycle safely in town."

John continued: "It's time for change.
"Despite mounting evidence Cheshire East Council won't act.
"They have lots of plans for Macclesfield, all gathering dust in filing cabinets in Crewe.
"We in the Green Party have heard this from so many local residents, and now is the time to make our voices heard loudly, together.
"Let's blow those cobwebs away and get some action now."
Anyone wishing to take part in the demonstration is asked to meet at Whalley Hayes car park at 10.30am on Saturday.
Those who arrive early can get a free bike check courtesy of the eLOV team.
The ride will start at 11am and will be a short loop around Macclesfield, ending outside the Town Hall.
