Macclesfield charities such as The Rossendale Trust and East Cheshire Hospice, will benefit through the sale of Christmas cards.

Rather than buying your Xmas card from a supermarket this year, Maxonians are being encouraged to head to Macclesfield Library to buy their festive greetings cards.

And the date Macclesfield Library will open their pop-up Christmas card shop for 2024, has been confirmed.

The Christmas Card Charity Shop will come to Macclesfield Library on November 2.

The pop-up shop will be open every day Macclesfield Library is open, until the last day of December 7.

The intuitive has been going for 53 years, and indeed, came to Macclesfield Library last year.

Other local charities to benefit include The Christie, who have a site in Macclesfield, and North West Air Ambulance.

In total, 39 charities will benefit, with other libraries such as Wilmslow and Sale also taking part. And it is not just cards that can be purchased.

Organiser Louise Russell told Macclesfield Nub News "As the days get shorter and the leaves fall, there's still plenty to look forward to. Not least thoughts of Christmas and the return of the Charity Christmas Card Shops in libraries across Cheshire.

"Making a return for an amazing 53rd time having been started by Sheila Hallas MBE, in 1971 and having raised almost £6.5m, the card shops are renowned for giving 100% of sales back to the charities they supports, something quite unique in this day.

They will also sell plenty of stocking fillers.

"The shops enable over 40 charities to get together and sell their cards, with 100% of the sales going back to the charities. This is possible due to the volunteers and the sale of Christmas gifts to cover overheads.

"This is possible as all workers in the shops are volunteers and any overheads are covered by the sale of the gifts, wrapping paper, toys and novelties also available in the shops."

Each charity averages ten different Christmas card designs, so with 39 charities to support, there is around 390 cards to choose from.

Volunteer Jill Dodson said, " Each year charities are finding it harder and harder to raise money."

"Selling Charity Christmas Cards is one solution that works and selling them through the Christmas Card shops works even better as all profits are recouped. The charities also tell us how they love to be involved, manning the shop, whilst chatting to our customers in a lovely, friendly, Christmassy setting.

"Please visit us and experience the ambience of our shops while doing some good for others."
