A new petition has been launched on Change.org, calling for the installation of CCTV cameras in the underpass near Commercial Road and Gas Road in Macclesfield

The petition has been signed by more than 250 people in less than three days, showing the strength of local support for enhanced surveillance.

Macclesfield mum Tanya Geale started the petition after her 14-year-old son, who has autism, was attacked and threatened with a knife by a group of teenagers while walking through an underpass near Commercial Road and Gas Road.

Tanya writes: "Using the underpass is a necessity for us residents of the Commercial Road area."

"The incident has instilled fear in us. All the while, a common sense remedy to this situation stares us starkly in the face: community-based CCTV."

The petition was started on October 11, and has 286 signatures as of publication.

Emily Parrish, a supporter of Tanya's petition, adds: "Too much is happening down there at night and it needs monitoring."

The petition is can be signed HERE, and you can also find more supporter comments here. If possible, please mention that this is a Change.org petition so readers know where to find it and learn more.

Cheshire Police has been contacted for comment.
