A young Macclesfield band have released their debut EP.

Red Sky Dawn have released a three-track EP today.

The band of young adults have an interesting backstory, given they honed their skills during the pandemic over Zoom, before getting together months later after COVID-restrictions ceased to perform their first gigs.

The EP is called The Man Who Stole The Sun, and you can listen to it on this link.

Love is a Thief is the peppiest of the tracks, optimistic, catchy and even features a little sax solo. The most playlist-friendly of the trio of tracks, Jessie Leask shines on this three-minute number.

Mr Jones - no relation to the Counting Crows song of the same name - has shades of 1990s Sting. (Which is no surprise given some of the bands members formative musical memories were The Police reunion tour fifteen years ago). With desert vibes and the characterisation of the title character, the track wouldn't feel out of place a modern Western.

The track which shares the name with the band - Red Sky Dawn - has a Pink Floydian-esque wispiness. Both vocalists sound chilling in the mix. Complimented by a beachy-rhythm section which kicks the song into gear.

The EP is done in 15 minutes, but regarding the length there is something rather refreshing about the song creating a world within the first 20-30 seconds before the vocals kick in, something which in a pre-Spotify era was the norm for songs.

Despite this throwback to music production of old, the youth and vibrance of the band is strong throughout the EP.

These new tracks will be followed by a single release in the next couple months. Listen to the new EP on this link.

Red Sky Dawn are a Macclesfield band that prides itself on performing original material - and on using talented, local musicians (young and old) to produce what nowadays might be viewed as a unique nostalgic sound.

The core band is: Sam Timson and Jessie Leask on vocals, Charlie Candlish on lead guitar, Josie Candlish on bass and Alex Walton on drums/percussion.

All four are either Macclesfield or Bollington-based.

Other musicians who have played on this EP are Stockport-based harmonica player Pat Clarke, violinist Georgie Bloomfield (Buxton), and cellist Libby Hamilton (Alderley Edge).

The band are proudly-Macclesfield. To accompany the new EP, a photoshoot at the bottom of 108 Steps was conducted. Late last year, they also released one of the EPs tracks as a single, which featured a warped image of the Ian Curtis mural on Mill Street.

The band have cited Joy Division as an influence, along with acts like Foals and The Police.

Red Sky Dawn's music can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.

You can also follow the band on Facebook or Instagram.

They also have a website and YouTube page.
