Deliveroo ramp up rider job applications in Macclesfield

Meal delivery company Deliveroo are trying again with Macclesfield, as they have opened applications for new riders.

The food delivery service rolled out across Macclesfield in August 2019, creating 50 casual jobs at the time.

But the company hasn't grown after almost three years of operation. While SK11 residents - particularly those in the town centre, are a-flush with options only a handful of residents of SK10 can get food delivered to them, and even then, it is a limited amount of options.

For example, if you live on the Beech Lane end towards Hibel Road e.g the postcode SK10 2DR, you can get a very limited spot of Deliveroo options.

However, a one minute cycle down the road at Beech Hall Drive or Riverside Park e.g SK10 2EG/SK10 2SL, you unable to order food.

Tytherington can't get Deliveroo, whereas Buxton Road residents can.

While a specific drive to attract the SK10 area has not been confirmed by the London company, a new job advert is asking to hire new staff to deliver food in Macclesfield.

Deliveroo did not respond to comment about the specific vacancies, or their plans to Macclesfield, but seven job websites have posted the following job description below in the last 48 hours.

"Become a food delivery driver with Deliveroo and find work that suits you," the job description said.

"Make money on your own schedule with your own vehicle (scooter, bike or car).

"Work when you want to, at the tap of a button. Set your own earning goals and get round-the-clock support."

You'll need a mode of transport (with license and insurance), and to be 18 or over, as the delivering of alcohol may occur.

A safety helmet is required, as is a Smartphone with at least iOS 12 or Android 6 software.

The self-employed work-when-you-want model has attracted critics, however, kept many going during the pandemic. And now Deliveroo could be expanding in Macclesfield.

"We pay a competitive fee for each order you deliver, the job description also said.

"You can earn tips from customers as well, to help towards your earnings goals.

"Deliveroo is transforming the way people think about food. We are providing people with access to thousands of different restaurants and cuisines, giving people the freedom to eat what they want, when they want, where they want. To succeed in this mission we need your help - apply in just 5 minutes."

The companies slow start in expanding into Macclesfield may be due to the pre-established network of courier companies in Macclesfield.

For example, electric cargo company eLOV are doing a similar job, but lack motorcyclists or cares, and are a carbon neutral electric bike delivery outfit by Macclesfield, for Macclesfield.
