Doorstep dog food thief sentenced after successful CCTV appeal
A dog food thief has been sentenced.
Stuart Preston will have to pay more than £100 after admitting to one charge of theft.
It comes after officers in Macclesfield were alerted to reports of a theft on Cross Street on Thursday, January 9.
The caller told police that they had been expecting a delivery of dog food that never arrived, despite the delivery company claiming otherwise.
After checking their CCTV, the victim discovered that the parcel had in fact been delivered.
However, a man had approached their address and stolen the parcel from outside their front door before they had been able to retrieve it.
The victim shared the CCTV footage on social media and the thief was quickly identified as Preston.
The 41-year-old was subsequently arrested and charged with theft.
He appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 15, where he entered a guilty plea to the aforementioned offence.
Preston, of Mill Lane in Macclesfield, was ordered to pay the victim £20 in compensation, along with a £32 victim surcharge and court fees of £85.
