A professional opera singer from Macclesfield is preparing to perform in one of her favourite local venues.

Rosie Lomas, 37, recently moved back to her hometown after more than a decade working in London.

Now part of the English Touring Opera, she will be performing in The Elixir of Love at Buxton Opera House on Sunday, October 26.

Rosie said: "This is my first season singing with English Touring Opera and I have absolutely loved working with them.

"It's a company I really believe in and, having moved back to the north, I really appreciate their focus on bringing really high quality opera to other areas of the country."

She added: "I have always loved Buxton Opera House.

"There's something really magical about the venue and about Buxton itself, hosting these amazingly high quality performances and festivals in a gorgeous little spa town in the middle of the moors.

"Singing there has always been a dream of mine, and it feels so special to finally be able to do it."

Rosie trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before performing with English National Opera, Opera Holland Park, and Silent Opera.

Her career has taken her across Europe and even as far as Australia.

A mother of two, Rosie has balanced her international career with family life, once performing in Italy when her youngest was only two months old.

Having spent over a decade working in London, Rosie and her family recently moved back to Macclesfield.

Rosie describes The Elixir of Love as 'a gorgeous' romantic comedy set in a faded seaside town.

"I play a grumpy fish and chip van owner," she added.

"We even have real chips on stage, sourced from the local chippy in each town."

Rosie is proud to bring her work home to the region and hopes Maxonians will make the short trip over to Buxton to support live opera.

Audiences can see Rosie perform in The Elixir of Love at Buxton Opera House on Sunday, October 26.
