Residents were evacuated after a fire broke out at a block of flats in Tytherington.

A large emergency service presence was called to Beech Farm Drive in the early hours of Tuesday morning (October 21) following reports of a fire at an apartment complex.

Nine residents have been moved to alternative accommodation as a result of the blaze, with an investigation to establish the cause set to take place.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 3.11am today, officers in Macclesfield responded to reports of a fire at an apartment block on Beech Farm Drive.

"Attending the scene alongside colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, officers assisted with the evacuation and the temporary relocation of nine residents from six of the properties within the complex.

"There were no injuries reported following the evacuation, with the occupants being checked over by attending paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service.

"The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent three engines to the scene – two from Macclesfield and one from the Poynton station.

"Firefighters were called to a three-storey block of flats after smoke was seen coming from a communal area," said a CFRS spokesperson.

"The fire was located on the ground floor and extinguished with a hose reel jet and dry powder extinguisher.

"High-pressure fans were used to clear the smoke from the building, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus evacuated residents and carried out searches.

"Police and ambulance crews supported the response.

"Nine residents were checked over by paramedics as a precaution - no one is believed to have needed hospital treatment.

"A fire investigation will take place to determine the cause.

"The property has been secured, and all residents have been moved to alternative accommodation."

Fire crews departed the scene shortly after 8am.
