A main road into Macclesfield has been shut.

The A523 London Road is currently closed in both direction due to a fallen tree.

The closure is in place between Woodhouse End Road and Robin Lane.

It is understood that police are in attendance and are diverting traffic through Sutton.

Narrowboater and digital creator Dave Thompson, who runs the Inspired by Nature YouTube channel, was in the area at the time the tree came down.

He said: "Just happened as I was walking along the canal from the boat.

"Very lucky no-one injured!

"A523 blocked both ways and the canal is blocked too!"
