Tributes have been paid to a woman murdered in her own home in Macclesfield.

Police were called to Gwyneth Carter's home in Pearson Street at around 6.48pm on Friday (July 18) due to concerns for her welfare.

Sadly, 72-year-old Gwyneth was pronounced dead at the scene.

Originally from Bollington, Gwyneth later moved to her home on Pearson Street.

Paying tribute, her family said: "She was a hardworking, strong lady with a laugh you could not forget.

"She was well known years ago for playing darts for a local team, she was competitive and always up for a good time.

"She was stubborn, known for always standing her ground and protective of those she loved.

"In recent years she found comfort and companionship with her beloved dog, Oscar."
