Firefighters have issued a warning after a campfire was left to burn.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to Macclesfield Forest on Tuesday morning (May 20).

It follows reports of a small fire in the open, believed to have started from an unattended campfire.

A CFRS spokesperson said: "This morning, firefighters tackled and extinguished a fire in Macclesfield Forest, believed to have started from an unattended campfire.

"With the recent dry weather, this could have been far more serious.

"Please help protect our beautiful countryside by never starting fires or leaving campfires unattended."

Two engines, one each from the Macclesfield and Bollington stations, arrived at the scene, off Clarke Lane in Langley, at around 7.13am.

They were joined by rapid response rescue units from Poynton and Alsager.

Firefighters used water backpacks and beaters to extinguish the flames.
