First-ever 'Heritage Open Day' to celebrate things to do in Macclesfield
It has been almost 20 years since The Times called Macclesfield 'the most uncultured town in Britain, based on its lack of theatres, cinemas and other cultural facilities'.
Since then, Macclesfield has welcomed venues like Cinemac, The Button Warehouse and Room for Comics to boost its artistic muscles.
And organisations of all kinds of activities are invited to come along and flex what they do best on a day celebrating things to do in our town.
On Saturday September 9 organisations around Macclesfield including the Silk Museum, St Michael's, Macclesfield and MADS Theatre will be opening their doors to the public as part of Heritage Open Day.
There will be plenty of free fun, in the event organised by Macclesfield Town Council.
Another building taking part will be the Old Town Hall, which will play host to Made in Macclesfield showcasing their makers as a market upstairs in the Assembly Room.
But downstairs in the Town Hall, the Town Hall want to put on a 'freshers fair' type event to introduce the people of Macclesfield to clubs, societies and charities that they might not know about.
To make sure the Heritage Open Day is as successful as possible, Macclesfield Town Council are inviting choirs, sports teams, societies and more to come and register their interest to show off what they do best.
A statement sent to Macclesfield Nub News read:
"Are you a club or society looking for new members? Want a chance to showcase what you do and get people to sign up?
"Are you a charity looking for new volunteers to help out? Or trustees to sit on your board?
"If so email [email protected] for more details on taking part."
If you can't wait until then, organisations can advertise what they do for FREE on our directory, and promote events on our What's On page.
