Macclesfield loves supporting the independent spirit of our town, so if we missed you off this list, or you are a creative who would like us to write about, please get in touch! We'd love to work together.
1. Minerva Daisy
The fourth single by local musician Minerva Daisy will release this month.
Born in Macc in 2001, the female singer-songwriter is influenced by Lily Allen and London Grammar.
Her latest single Something Strange is a little heavier than her piano and acoustic-twinged previous efforts.
"it's a little different from my previous releases with more of an edge to it," she said.
Something Strange will release on February 16. Read our interview with Minerva here.
2. Yopo
With a Lou Reed-sounding vocalist minus the substance-weathered vocals, Yopo are a lush sounding outfit drawing from hip-hop, jazz, progressive rock and modern metal.
Euan Copeland (vocals, guitar) has said: "Our music has always come from the melting pot. I used to call it 'grunge-blues grooves' when we were an acoustic trio – and we still retain those influences to some extent – but we're way beyond just that now."
The band released a few minor Spotify hits before the pandemic, and while you'll regularly find them playing at Macclesfield's Mash Guru or The Swan with Two Necks, it has been ages since the band released any music.
While nothing has been announced yet new Yopo tunes have been confirmed for this year. Follow their Facebook for updates. Their next gig is at Manchester's Night and Day Cafe, with fellow Macclesfield musician Ben Gorb, where new songs may be previewed.
3. Megan Dixon Hood
When she's not working at WILD & WILD Café over in Congleton, Megan Dixon Hood is working on her flourishing music career.
Having crafted a perfect fairytale-like, ethereal-image, it is clear to see this Bollington musician has taken some inspiration from the legends of Macc Forest and White Nancy.
Megan is a more relatable Florence and the Machine / AURORA-type performer who after a string of successful singles, is fine-tuning her debut album, set to be released this year. She records in Edge Studios in Macclesfield.
She has almost 2,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Her most recent single Third Lung had a music video filmed in the Peak District, and you can listen to it here.
4. Field Manual
Field Manual are a talented group of forty-somethings bring a flavour of Americana to Macc. They have released two albums to date, which can be listened to here and here.
Led by the owner of Macclesfield AMP guitar shop, the they've released two studio albums and recent had a Spotify hit with their wholesome track Home, which has over 10,000 streams and can be listened to here.
Boating 2,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, the local festival regulars will release their third album this year.
Lead singer and guitarist Chris Insley said "This is the first album that features our newest member Robbie Roberts on guitar and slide."
"He's really allowed the songs to go to the next level and given us really what we needed sonically. Plus he's a great personality to have in the band.
"We're very excited to have started recording and songwriting hasn't ever been as enjoyable as this."
They are playing The Wharf in Macc on Friday February 11. Read our recent interview with Field Manual here.
5. The C33s
The C33s are a guitar punk, garage, and surf-tinged band with members from Macclesfield and Manchester.
The trio consisting of Judy Jones (drums, vocals), Cav Green (guitar, vocals) and Ste Phillips (bass), recently signed a deal with Whispering Pines Collective.
On top of this, the band's garage punk sound, which very much echoes the sound of New York's burgeoning indie-punk scene, has bagged them a festival gig in the Big Apple next month.
The band describe their sound as "an East coast meets West coast affair, ramped up Ramones pop fused with full on Dick Dale twang. If Pulp Fiction were set in a satellite town The C33s just wrote the soundtrack."
The band released their EP Take Me off the Face of the Earth in September, recorded at Big Red Studios in Macclesfield. And they have more music to come this year.
Named 'the future' by BBC Radio 6 Music DJ and Wilmslow resident Chris Hawkins, you won't have long to wait for their next batch of songs as it is out on March 4.
You can follow them on Facebook, The C33s, and Instagram.
Clocking up over 30,000 streams on Spotify, you can listen to their current discography here.
