The former mayor of Macclesfield has raised £7,590 during her year in office for her chosen charities, Just Drop-In and Speaking Up Speaking Out.

Money was raised through Cllr Janet Jackson's packed calendar of charity events during the 2019-2020 mayoral year.

The charities received the funds earlier this year in recognition of their need during the lockdown.

Cllr Jackson MBE was delighted with the fundraising total and said: "I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended my charity events throughout the Mayoral Year, and contributed so liberally to the Charity Fund.

"Many of the town's local independent businesses gave generously by donating a marvellous selection of raffle and auction prizes for my events, and I wish to thank them also for their fantastic support."

She added: "It is solely down to the support given by everyone that, considering the lockdown and early ending of my mayoral year, the fundraising resulted in such a generous amount for my two charities."

Ann Wright of Just Drop-In said, "We want to offer our warm thanks and appreciation to Cllr Janet Jackson for her long term commitment for the work of our charity and in particular for her support during her 2019-2020 Mayoral Year.

"The money raised will provide over 100 mentoring and counselling sessions to support local young people struggling with their emotional health in these difficult times."

Megan Possart, of Speaking Up Speaking Out, echoed the gratitude, saying: "We were so grateful to be chosen as one of the mayor's charities of the year, and so pleased at the fantastic amount of money raised.

"A massive thank you to Cllr Janet Jackson for her continued support of SUSO and thank you to everyone who attended the events and helped raise money."
