The Mayor of Macclesfield has presented fifteen awards to community heroes.

On the same day as the Grammy's were held in Las Vegas, Macclesfield had their own big awards ceremony, recognising great people who go the extra mile for our town.

The Mayor's Civic Awards is a yearly tradition towards the end of a Mayor's tenure, which recognises the hard-working individuals in Macclesfield who go above and beyond for our town.

The community-nominated awards were given out at a ceremony at the Tytherington Family Worship Church on Sandwich Drive.

Macclesfield Nub News was delighted to be invited to the event, and was the official photographer for the event.

Community Involvement Civic Awards went to

- Irene Wilde for services to Macclesfield Wheelies

- Mike Cunningham in recognition of services to youth football coaching and development

- Dominic Lisle for services helping those recovering from alcoholism

- Shannon Lancaster in recognition of services in establishing and running children's clothing/toy library and support network

Youth Civic Award went to

- Beech Hall School for their fantastic fundraising efforts swimming the English Channel Sporting and Leisure Civic Award went to

- Personal Trainer Matthew Rigby or as Deputy Mayor Cllr Fiona Wilson called him, Macclesfield's own Joe Wicks, for his dedication to delivery free Park and Pram Fit sessions on behalf of the Town Council

Art & Culture Civic Award went to

-Harry Newton for services to Macclesfield Male Voice Choir and Majestic Theatre Environment Civic Award went to

- Alejandra Eifflaender of Grow Macclesfield, for her services to community enhancement and the local environment

Independent Business Civic Award went to

- Russ Hope of @elovuk for his green delivery service Ambassador of Macclesfield Civic Award went to

- Mohammed Hussain and colleagues from Achaari in recognition of their national takeaway award

The Pride of Macclesfield Civic Award went to

-Professor Peter Simpson in recognition of establishing a COVID-19 testing lab and drug discovery at MDC Lifetime Achievement Award went to

- John Jones MBE for longstanding commitment to fundraising for East Cheshire Hospice and Macclesfield Hospital (who sadly couldn't make the event - as of course - he was at a fundraising event)

Mayors Civic Award went to

- James Hogben from Macclesfield Roundtable

- Christine Earles from Windyway Trust

Russell Hope was commended for establishing his carbon neutral delivery company ELOV. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

For their commitment to fundraising for their organisations Finally, the Special Award went to

- Millie Ansell who has spent her own time re-painting street signs in Macclesfield as part of her Silver DoE Award

The Tytherington place of worship was well-attended, and there were performances from local singers and Lead Pastor Steve Parsons.

Famous guests included Macclesfield FC gaffer Danny Whitaker, and the Royal-appointed title of The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire.

The Mayor's Civic Awards is one of the final big events in the calendar for Macclesfield Mayor David Edwardes, who will bow out from his civic duty as Macc's Mayor in mid-May.
