There are some fresh faces behind the bar at 'Macclesfield's hidden gem'.

The Silk Trader, part of the Robinsons pub group, is back open, now under new management.

Bollington born-and-bred Nathan Mathers and his partner Katie Miller are hoping to breathe new life into the Brook Street pub.

"We know we can make a success of it," said 23-year-old Nathan.

"We are both very driven, sociable, people. We want to get this pub back to what it was.

"Before, when it was the Boar Hound, it was a thriving business.

"It's a pub we used drink at and we would speak about what we could to make it work and I'm confident that it can!"

Nathan continued: "Over time, I think a lot of the locals have dispersed and we want to get them all back because this is a pub that deserves to be busy.

"We're hoping that with a bit of time and patience we can get them all back."

Until recently, Nathan had been working at the Bulls Head in Kerridge.

When the landlord there called it a day, he decided it was time for a change of scenery himself.

He said: "I'd always wanted to have a pub of my own and it just so happened that the Silk Trader, which was a pub I'd been interested in for a while, happened to come up at exactly the same time, so it was perfect timing!

"When Robinsons told me about it, I just couldn't not go for it and Katie encouraged me to go for it because she knew that it was something I'd always to do and now here we are.

"Without the support of Katie and my brother Sam, who is helping us out, I don't think I'd have ever gone for it."

The Silk Trader, described by Robinsons as 'Macclesfield's hidden gem', opened under Katie and Nathan for the first time on Friday, September 19.

"It's been fantastic so far, we've had lots of support" Nathan said.

"It's been really busy. We've not had a quite day yet, which is obviously exactly what you want!"

Looking to the future, Nathan, Katie and Sam are looking to reintroduce a food menu at the Silk Trader.

Nathan is planning to start serving up tapas, with the Bull's Head having become renowned for their small plates.
