Have your say on the future of parks in Macclesfield

Our area's borough council is seeking our views for Macclesfield's parks and green spaces

Cheshire East Council is wanting residents in the borough to shape the update of their municipal parks strategy.

Lockdown has proved parks and green spaces have become even more integral to our daily lives, as a vital means of improving our mental and physical health and wellbeing.

It has seen people even moving to our town just for our two parks and surrounding countryside.

As we approach two years of living with the pandemic and face the challenge of the climate emergency, the council feels that now is the right time to review its approach in the future.

They want taxpayers to help change the old strategy, especially in light of the pandemic.

And people of Macclesfield are being asked to complete a short survey to provide their opinions on how this could happen.

Whether it is improvement ideas for South Park, West Park, Tegg's Nose, or even desires for a new park, all opinions are welcome.

The two key areas the council has been focused on recently to improve its parks and open spaces have been health and wellbeing and the protection and enhancement of biodiversity across the borough.

Councillor Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, said: "Both long before Covid and during the pandemic, there has been continued investment in our parks and green spaces.

"Our teams, including our colleagues at Ansa, have worked incredibly hard to provide outstanding places for residents and visitors to enjoy – the recent Green Flag Awards are a fantastic endorsement of that work."

Tegg's Nose recently won another Green Flag Award, and we'll meet the rangers who made it happen next week, exclusively for Macclesfield Nub News.

The Macclesfield East Independent added: "That said, we are in no way about to rest on our laurels.

"When you see how many people are continuing to enjoy our parks, as we move well into the autumn months, it's a useful reminder that the work we are doing must continue.

"But it must continue in an intelligent way, and that's why we're very keen to learn what our residents think is needed as we move forward."

The results of the survey will help to inform the review and will feed into how the council manages our parks and green spaces in the future.

Outside of Macclesfield, all Cheshire East residents have been invited to the survey.

At a time where Macclesfield's greenbelt is being used for homes, and our town expands, perhaps it may be worth spending a few minutes to fill in the survey.
