Health club looking to install padel courts and new golf practice area

A Macclesfield health club and spa is applying for planning permission for a new golf practice area and three padel courts.
The Tytherington Club wants to build the new golf practice area with eight covered bays and ball-stop netting at its premises on Dorchester Way.
It is also seeking permission for three padel courts with fencing and floodlighting,
A design and access statement prepared by S&C Slatter for The Club Company says: "The existing golf practice area at The Tytherington Club is too short for use as a full driving range and restricted to the use of seven iron clubs only.
"The existing shelter is in a dilapidated state.
"A new golf practice area for use by the existing golf club members would allow The Club Company to bring practice facilities up to the standard of the rest of the on-site facilities.
"This would be a small facility aimed at allowing existing members to practice and is not intended to compete with local commercial driving ranges."
The plan includes an eight-bay 40m-long, 15m-wide and 15m-high netted practice area with a canopy to cover the bays.
It is proposed it would be open from 7am to dusk in the summer and from 8am to dusk in the winter.
The proposed padel courts would be 20m long and 10m wide.
The Club Company operates 17 sites across the UK and says there has been a reduction in demand for tennis courts and an increased demand for padel.
The application, number 25/2491/FUL, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council's website.
The last date for submitting comments is August 27.
