A Macclesfield pub is hosting their second-ever Cider Festival.

The Castle, which reopened after eight years of closure in 2021, began a fruit cider festival this time last year.

It did so well that the event will return this month, bigger and better than ever.

Bartender Max Goodwin explained what it is all about.

"The four day festival will take place from Thursday July 27 to Sunday July 30", he said.

"Because our bar is so small, we don't have the space or capacity to offer as much cider as we like. We can only have one on draught throughout the year.

"We want to celebrate 'cyder' and champion small batch production as much as we do all our year round offerings, a summer weekend of our temporary haybale bar seems a great way to do that.

"So that is why we allocate one weekend a year to celebrate cider. There will be over ten bag in a box ciders.

"We will have a mix of traditional with hard English ciders, to perries, and modern styles with other fruits that are sweeter."

"My personal favourite is SeaCider which comes from Sussex. It is like the new style of branded Swedish ciders, but even better.

"We're trying to cater for everyone."

The festivities kick-off on the Thursday, where award-winning Macclesfield cider-makers SiDa will be hosting a 'meet the brewer' event.

Another Macclesfield cider maker present will be Sarah Simpson of The Random Apple Company. Already known for their delicious juices and preserves, this year will see the Swanscoe Lane farm debut their cider for the first time.

"We'll be pairing the cider with a different food menu for the Festival", added Max.

"We will be serving local sausages, which go brilliantly with the cider.

"We'll sell vegan and meaty sausages with three different types of toppings.

"You can have it with chips as well."

The Festival will take place from Thursday July 27 to Sunday July 30 during the pub's regular opening hours, which are 12-11pm every day except Sunday, where they stop serving at 10. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

Festival entry is not-ticketed, and free to attend. Just order your pints as you normally would. The venue's usual tipples will also be available.

The first day of the festivities will also see a separate 'World Whiskey' tasting event, ask in at the bar before this Thursday for more details.

The final day of the four-day event will coincide with the Treacle Market.
