A housebuilder has made a donation to a Macclesfield charity.

David Wilson Homes has donated £1,500 to Rossendale Trust in Macclesfield, which helps adults with learning difficulties to live full and enriching lives.

The charity, which also aims to promote independence and inclusivity, received the contribution from the homebuilder to support its plans to enhance its premises.

Currently based in a temporary building in the grounds of Rossendale Hall, which has become weathered and unable to meet the demands of the people who attend, Rossendale Trust is hoping to make vast improvements to the facility hosting its Oakwood activity service.

Its plans will allow for a bigger building, enabling more people to attend its services. The charity is hoping to make significant upgrades to the grounds and pond area, so that it becomes more accessible to people who use its services.

Susanne Tidswell, Fundraising Officer at Rossendale Trust, said: "Our vision is to create a tranquil, relaxing, and welcoming environment for everyone, and the generous donation from David Wilson Homes will help us to achieve our end goal.

"Upon leaving full-time education there is very little provision and support for those people with complex care needs and learning disabilities in Macclesfield and Cheshire.

"We provide a safe and inclusive environment for everyone who uses our services and help them to overcome barriers and break down obstacles."

The Rossendale Trust provides 25% of the supported living accommodation in Cheshire East. It supports some of the most vulnerable people in the community who would otherwise have nowhere to go, or little to do.

The charity offers supported living accommodation to over 60 individuals, which ensures they are supported to live in their own homes. It provides a day service of varied and engaging activities for people from the wider community and runs a supported employment programme to provide work experience for people who would otherwise be excluded from the workplace.

David Wilson Homes' donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Foundation, which is run by its parent company, Barratt Developments. It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Claire Jarvis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: "The wonderful work of Rossendale Trust is a valuable service for adults with learning disabilities in Macclesfield and Cheshire.

"It's a privilege to donate £1,500 to the charity through our Community Fund scheme and we hope it can continue its fantastic services for the community."

David Wilson Homes is based 2.5 miles away from the charity at its Kings Park development on Fence Avenue in Macclesfield.
