On Saturday September 14, AstraZeneca Macclesfield opened its doors for a celebration of the employees who work there and all things STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths.)

Almost 2,500 AstraZeneca employees, family and friends enjoyed a whole range of activities throughout the day including "Mad Science" shows, lab tours, experiments galore, face painting, birds of prey demonstrations, self-powered Scalextric racing, robots, individual and group challenges.

And there was even a visit from fictional scientists Marty McFly and Doc Brown from the 'Macc-' to the future films.

Annette Lewis, Training & Development Lead said: "We are passionate about STEM engagement because, by sharing our excitement about what we do here, we support education in our local community and beyond."

"We already have people in our business who first experienced AZ through work experience opportunities.

"Our people also relish the opportunity to be ambassadors for STEM and for AZ, inspiring children and young people to develop a lifelong interest in science and an understanding of the breadth of careers that exist in our industry."

Claire Crook, External Supply Lead at AZ said: "My seven-year old declared it 'the best day ever!' Thanks to everyone involved in organising it and all the volunteers who helped out on the day.

AstraZeneca has held countless fun days over the years, but it was the first family fun day held in five years, AKA before the pandemic.

Local suppliers were also in attendance, as were their official Macclesfield charity partners East Cheshire Hospice and Silklife Foodbank.

As reported by Macclesfield Nub News earlier this month, AstraZeneca has an active planning application open to public about changing the number of car parking spaces.
