New data has revealed the number of people in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas who have died due to Covid-19 related illness since the start of the pandemic

Figures compiled by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show that 136 deaths linked to coronavirus were registered in the local area between 1 March 2020 and 31 January 2021.

The death tolls for each area, as recorded by the ONS, are listed below:

• Prestbury and Addlington- 21

• Bollington- 15

• Macclesfield Tytherington- 9

• Macclesfield Upton Priory and Greenside- 8

• Macclesfield Bollinbrook- 27

• Macclesfield East and Hurdsfield- 15

• Macclesfield Central- 11

• Macclesfield Weston- 10

• Macclesfield South and Lyme Green- 6

• Gawsworth and Macclesfield Forest- 14

The data, which breaks down in which months the deaths occurred, shows that most of the area's deaths occurred during the first wave.

For example, the Macclesfield Bollinbrook area peaked at 12 deaths last May compared to three in January during the latest wave.

The area labelled as Addlington and Prestbury fared significantly better in the second wave with two deaths compared with the 19 recorded between March and June.
