Investigation into collapse of B5470 Macclesfield Road continues as road remains shut

Cheshire East says the investigation into the collapse of the B5470 Macclesfield Road is still ongoing and it will remain closed while engineers work to find a solution.
The embankment supporting the road, between Rainow and Kettleshulme collapsed, together with part of carriageway, in January.
At the recent meeting of the full council, Cllr Chris O'Leary (Sutton, Con) said: "Several businesses along the road are being affected, as are several farmers and parents doing the school run.
"Can you assure me that once the council knows what happens, that immediate action will be taken to repair and reopen this road?"

Highways committee chair Mark Goldsmith (Wilmslow, Ind) said: "The embankment collapse on the Macclesfield Road is technically complex, with three phases to resolve the issue.
"Firstly, ground investigations; secondly, design; and then, thirdly, construction.
"We're working hard to understand the causes of the failure and are currently undertaking ground investigations of the embankment and surrounding area.
"This will inform the design and delivery of the solution.
"We have already engaged with the supply chain and will deliver the solution as soon as is practical."
He added: "We understand the importance of the road to the communities in Cheshire East and will work to reduce the impact of the road closure on them wherever we can."
He said the council has a webpage dedicated to the issue and updates would be posted on that.
