A footballer who lives on the Prestbury / Mottram St. Andrew border that was cleared of rape last week could be leaving our area.

Benjamin Mendy, who lived in a mansion on Withinlee Road at the time of his 2021 arrest, has signed for a new football club following the expiration of his contract with Manchester City.

The defender will be returning home as he has signed for FC Lorient in the French Ligue 1.

According to a national newspaper, the left-back has recently sold his home near Macclesfield, which was valued in 2022 at £4.8 million.

His new club tweeted his arrival, confirming he will take the number 5. However, the club president refused to comment further. (Image - FC Lorient)

The Sun estimates he made a loss on selling his home, called The Spinneys, however, there is no source to support this.

The identity of the new owner of his local mansion, which he moved into in 2018, is unknown.

It has been 23 months since the Premier League and World Cup winner last played professional football.
