Joy Division among nominees for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2025

Joy Division could soon cement their place among music royalty.
The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2025 have been announced.
Joy Division and New Order are among those in the running, alongside the likes of Oasis, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Billy Idol and The White Stripes.
John Sykes, chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said: "These remarkable nominees have each created their own musical style and attitude impacting generations of music lovers and contributing to the ever-evolving sounds and continued growth of rock and roll."

Artists or bands become eligible for nomination for the Hall of Fame 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording.
The 2025 inductees will be revealed in late April ahead of the induction ceremony in Los Angeles in the autumn.
Joy Division and New Order have been grouped together for their nomination, with the latter having formed following the death of Macclesfield's own Ian Curtis.
After attending a Sex Pistols show at Manchester's Free Trade Hall in 1976, vocalist Curtis, bassist Peter Hook, Macclesfield-born drummer Stephen Morris, and guitarist Bernard Sumner started Joy Division.
The band's short-lived career resulted in hits such as Love Will Tear Us Apart, Disorder, Transmission and She's Lost Control.
Sadly, just days before they were due to begin their 1980 tour of the US, Curtis took his own life at his home on Barton Street.

The remaining members renamed themselves New Order, adding keyboardist Gillian Gilbert.
Their 1983 hit Blue Monday remains the best-selling 12-inch single of all time and the band continues to tour the globe and headline festivals till this day.
