A local farmer has donated some of her newborn lambs to the members of Bollington Dementia Friendly Group in a kind gesture.

Helen Sheldon, who lives at Sugar Lane farm in Adlington, volunteers at Bollington Dementia Friendly Group.

The group started five years ago for those with Alzheimer's or some form of dementia and their carers to come and socialise.

The new names are baa-rilliant.

They meet up at Bollington Library every Wednesday, where members of the group are able to have a coffee and a chat.

Over the last six months the group has grown, with 25 members at the moment.

Helen said: "It's a bit of a funny situation if you've got someone with dementia, people don't always like to talk about it or they don't want the help. They think they can find their own way of coping."

Helen let members of Bollington Dementia Friendly Group name her baby lambs.

"It's a lovely atmosphere where people with Alzheimer's seem quite happy to be there and the carers have a bit of time to be with other people and have a chat."

As well as this, there is a lot of information about Alzheimer's and dementia in Bollington Library itself.

After a couple weeks of not being able to attend the groups meetings, Helen began to miss them and wondered how she could give something back.

As a kind gesture she donated 25 lambs to the group where members of the group are able to name them.

The lambs are spaced out over three fields, with a few named lambs in each one.

The donations have proven to be a hit and the Dementia Group have loved it.

Already kind enough to spend her time volunteering, Helen has now done another good deed in letting the dementia community name her spring lambs. (Image - Helen Sheldon)

Names of the lambs that have been chosen by members of the group have been posted into a WhatsApp group that they are all part of.

According to Helen, members of the group are always asking about them and enjoy receiving updates about how they are doing.

As well as meeting up at Bollington Library every Wednesday, they also have outings out.

Last year, they went to the Clink, the restaurant run by prisoners at HMP Styal prison.

It gives them a chance to socialise and is a nice day out to do.

For Helen, donating the lambs is her way of giving back to the group.
