A tradesperson's quick thinking whilst out on delivery helped save an injured customer.
Lewis Evans owns an upholstery business in Waterside Mill, east Macclesfield, which he has had for just over 20 years.
It wasn't until one of his customers stopped answering his WhatsApp messages that he sensed that something might be wrong.
Lewis had been due to deliver a sofa to the woman's house but had to rearrange for the next day.
He messaged her on WhatsApp to confirm the time he would arrive and thought nothing else of it.
However, as he set off to deliver to the house, he saw that she hadn't opened his WhatsApp message which he thought was unusual as she was normally good at reading her messages.
Lewis then tried to ring her but received no answer and when he got to the house it looked empty.
He said: "I knocked on the door and just heard a really faint muffle sound. Well, I thought it was a cat at first".
"I shouted through 'hello' and I heard her, and she was laying on the floor in her living room".
"All the doors were locked, so I ran round the back to have a look and then I could see her there laying on the floor so I called an ambulance".
In an unusual twist, former Coronation Street star Charles Lawson (actor for the character Jim McDonald), who used to live next door to the woman and knows her, made a surprise appearance to help out.
According to Lewis, the soap star "Was willing to throw some garden furniture through the back patio window pane".
Fortunately for Lewis, he was able to get into the house without breaking anything.
"We managed to get into the house without breaking a window, instead we prised one of the windows and opened the door."
After managing to gain access to the house, they calmed the woman down while they waited for an ambulance.
Lewis then learned that the woman had been laying there for 16 hours.
The woman, who remains in hospital with a few broken ribs and a collapsed lung, has reached out to Lewis, thanking him.
"It was a bit of luck that I had rearranged it for that day because otherwise I would have taken the sofa the day before, she would have fallen that night and no one would have known about it," he revealed.
"[It] can't have been nice for her lying on the floor for all those hours. Must have been about 16 hours I would say" Lewis added.
"It was more of a stroke of luck that I changed the day more than anything".
"She's a good customer, so I'm glad I could help her out".
He wishes her a speedy recovery and said "I'll rearrange the delivery once she's back up on her feet again".
