As the easing of some lockdown restrictions come into force today (13th May), golf is among the activities that can now be played while socially distancing.

Macclesfield's two golf clubs and Prestbury Golf Club have reopened their doors after nearly two months of closure due to the lockdown.

Macclesfield Golf Club

Nub News spoke to Bob McGrouther, a director at Macclesfield Golf Club about their reopening and the new measures in place to keep players and staff safe.

He said: "As part of phase one of our reopening, it will be online bookings for members and guests only at this stage, so we won't be accepting visitors straight away to the course.

"Those members have all had full instructions sent out to them as to what is expected when they do come to play and there is clear signage around the course to remind them of their responsibilities."

Mr McGrouther added: "We're just delighted to have our course open once again."

He said the online booking system was in "total overload" yesterday as "every golfer and his mate were trying to book a tee time". Things have settled down today, he added.

For further updates, you can find them on the club's Facebook page or call 01625 423227.

The Tytherington Club

Due to the high demand, Nub News was unable to speak to a member of staff at the Tytherington Club.

On the clubs Facebook page, they have confirmed that they have reopened as of today.

Members have been booking tee times online since yesterday, but the club did issue an apology following a "frustrating booking experience" had by some people, but added that many bookings have been made by members.

On non-members, the post said: "We are extending member-only bookings until Friday due to high demand. For non-members, we apologise for the wait and look forward to welcoming you soon."

They have also asked people to only visit the club at the time of their booking to maintain social distancing.

For more information, visit the clubs clubs Facebook page or call 01625 506000.

Prestbury Golf Club

Nub News was also unable to speak to a representative at the Prestbury Golf Club due to busy phone lines, but they confirmed on their Facebook page that they are open today.

In line with other local clubs, they are only accepting bookings from members only, but they hope to "welcome visitors and guests over the coming weeks".

The club has posted social distancing and hygiene guidance issued by Golf England on how to play safely, which included not to touch anything on the course and wash hands regularly.

The advice also states that all tee times must be pre-booked before going to the course.

For the latest updates, you can visit Prestbury Golf Club's Facebook page or call on 01625 828241.
