Aldi has joined other supermarkets in cracking down on customers who don't wear masks.

The German discounter, which has a store next to Macclesfield bus station, said that people who refuse to wear a mask without a valid medical exemption will be turned away.

Those who forget their mask will be offered one free of charge.

Customers are also being asked to shop alone whenever possible in an effort to prevent stores becoming crowded.

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer at Aldi UK said: "The safety of our colleagues and customers is our number one priority. Wearing a mask is mandatory for everyone that shops at Aldi, except for the small number of people who have a medical exemption."

In order to control the number of customers in store, the company has also been using a traffic light system.
