A poor bull weighing almost 142 stone was saved from dying in mud yesterday.

The male livestock was rescued at 2pm on Wednesday 28 September at a farm on Church Lane in Gawsworth.

In a statement, Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "Animal rescue units and supporting fire engines from Bollington, Knutsford and Lymm and a fire engine from Macclesfield."

"Firefighters and specially trained animal rescue crews rescued a 900kg bull trapped in mud. The animal was stuck up to chest height. The crews worked together using an inflatable pathway to release the bull, who was fit and well after his ordeal."
