Firefighters rescued a sheep who had got stuck in a canal near Macclesfield.

Just after 6.30pm yesterday evening (27th July), firefighters from Macclesfield and Bollington were called to Higher Fence Road following reports of sheep being stuck in the canal near Macclesfield.

On arrival the crews found that one sheep had made its way into the canal and was unable to get out. Two fire engines attended, one from Macclesfield and Bollington.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Firefighters, wearing water safety equipment, entered the canal and guided the sheep to safety with assistance from a local farmer."

The crews were detained at the incident for around 45 minutes.
