Macclesfield Bikeathon raises £10,000 for charity supporting area's youngsters

Cyclists raised almost £10,000 for charity.
The Macclesfield Bikeathon returned last weekend, with 300 riders taking part in the popular annual event.
Their efforts helped raise £9,800, with 100 per cent of the entry fees going directly to Just Drop-In, a charity supporting 11-25-year-olds in the north of Cheshire East.
Ann Wright, chief officer of Just Drop-In, said: "This truly is an amazing local community event.
"It has been heart-warming to see our community come together in this way and also to meet new friends from further afield who came to ride.
"Thanks to all involved for their enthusiasm and support, we hope to see everyone again next year!
"The event was made possible by our incredible volunteers, the Town Council, local businesses, churches and sponsors including our main sponsor and charity partner Astra Zeneca.
"There is still time to support us, as we would love fundraising to hit £10,000 for the first time".

The Bikeathon started in Market Place in Macclesfield town centre on Saturday (May 17) with cyclists of all ages and abilities coming together to raise money for Just Drop-In
Participants could choose from three scenic routes through the Cheshire countryside – a 60-mile challenge, 30-mile ride and the Superhero family ride.
Darren Allgood, organiser and founder of Allgood Cycling, worked in partnership with local businesses to provide rewards for those taking part, which could be redeemed in town.
Town centre manager Abigail Sherratt estimates this help drive a 10 per cent increase in footfall on the day.
