An unidentified man has allegedly racially abused a teenager.

Officers investigating a racially aggravated abuse case in Macclesfield have issued an image of a man they would like to speak to.

At sometime between 3pm and 3.15pm on Tuesday 4 January, a teenage girl was walking along Cumberland Street with friends when an unknown man approached them.

It is believed that the man made a racially aggravated comment towards the girl before attempting to grab her phone.

Police have now issued an image of a Caucasian man that they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.

Police Constable Emma Fulham said: "Thankfully, the girl managed to run away to safety and reported the incident to police straight away.

"We take all reports of hate crime seriously and since the incident occurred, we have been undertaking a number of enquiries over a period of time which has led us to obtain and issue the image of a man we would like to speak to.

"I would urge anyone who recognises the man, may know who he is or the man himself to please get in touch with us.

"The same goes to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have any dashcam footage from around the area at the time of the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the Cheshire Police website quoting IML 1170435 or call 101.

Alternatively, information can be passed on to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or via the Crimestoppers website.

Racially aggravated assaults can give an offender up to two years in jail.

The appeal comes 72 days after the alleged offence.

The exact words the man is believed to have used have not been revealed.
